The story behind my art

The Heart That Started It All ❤️

Max's portrait in a turquoise frame hanging on the studio's brick wall above a painted sign reading “May you be proud of the work you do, the person you are and the difference you make,” surrounded by Jill's other pieces.

For 30 years, my world revolved around being a mom—raising my children and loving the dogs who were such an important part of our family. But Max and Gabby were the two that held the most precious place in my heart. They were my heart and soul, and I couldn’t imagine life without them.

After losing both of my babies within 6 weeks of each other, (Sept/Nov 2025) we built me an art studio in hopes that it would become a place where I could heal, create, and slowly discover a new sense of purpose.

A week before Max passed away, on November 2, 2025, at the age of 14, we had a beautiful photograph taken of him. When the print arrived from Shutterfly, the box had been damaged, and the picture was crinkled. I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away & instead, I placed the photograph on a canvas and created my first heart themed piece from the soul I loved so deeply.

That piece became The Heart That Started It All.

From that one painting hearts started finding their way into my art, inspired by the unconditional love of my dogs and by the kind of love that never truly leaves us.

What began as a way to hold on to Max became the beginning of an entirely new chapter in my life—one filled with color, texture, experimentation, and heart.

Today, my art takes many forms, from acrylic paintings on canvas to mixed-media creations and three-dimensional pieces. Yet at the heart of everything I create is the same inspiration: love, connection, and the beauty that can emerge from life’s most tender moments.

Max will always be part of my story. And that little red heart will always remind me where it all began.

Sometimes, the most beautiful things begin with a broken heart. 💔
